Elton John Nominated for ‘Celebrity Dad of the Year’

ABC/Ida Mae Astute(LONDON) — Since Elton John became a father over Christmas, he’s pretty much been everywhere talking about how much he loves his new son, Zachary.  Maybe that’s why he’s been nominated for Britain’s “Celebrity Dad of the Year” award. The British paper The Independent reports that both Elton and his partner, David Furnish, are up for the award, the first gay couple to be so honored.

According to the organizers of the honor, the Celebrity Dad of the Year Award was created to “reward the celebrity dad who has impressed the nation by balancing a hectic public life with the demands of parenting.”

Among Elton’s competition is David Beckham — ironic, since Elton is godfather to two of Beckham’s sons.

Elton John Nominated Father of the Year. Elton John and David Furnish are the first gay couples who are preparing to receive the award as the Dad of the Year 2011 in The Premier Inn Celebrity.

The couple became parents of Zachary since Christmas last year through a mother substitute. Elton John and David Furnish really hear their candidacy in the nominations.

Other nominations include footballer Wayne Rooney, David Beckham, singer Take, Gary Barlow, and television presenter Jonathan Ross.

Last year’s winner, Peter Andre, who has a junior (5) and Tiaamii (3) with ex-wife Katie Price, is also nominated this year.

After last year crowned the Dad of the Year, Pete said, “It means a great responsibility for me as a father, where I was the most important role.”

According to the organizers, Premier Inn Celebrity Dad this year aims to give reward to the father of celebrities who seem able to balance between public life they lead with the demands of parenthood.

Elton (63) have previously talked about how he would like Zachary, who is now aged five months, should be educated well, despite her parents’ fame and rich.

While her partner, David, singer ‘Rocket Man’ said, “I’ll better appreciate childhood now, and we want to give the best that we have to Zachary.”
